I'm sure they are going to claim false damages and say things such as "we had to check all of our systems for backdoors" and "we spent lots of time checking to see if he gained access to anything else".
I think the FBI needs to review the case of "United States vs Puffer" so they'll see that simply gaining access to a protected system does not result in damages before they waste taxpayer money on something as silly as telling the NY Times of their security problems.
The FBI is the strong arm of corporate america and politicians...nothing more.
