Mitnick was not a "nice" hacker. He was just good. Make the distinction all you want about real hackers as opposed to wannabe's, but the fact remains that real hackers have better things to do than wreak havoc on the general computer populace.

And just because we dont hear about the things that they do, does not mean that they do them with any less enthusiasm than Lamo does. Nor does it man that they do it with any more aggressive intentions. They just dont want to have the spooks show up on their doorstep and cart them off to jail to rot in a cell for years on end. A prosecutor actually convinced a judge that Mitnick could start nuclear war from a telephone if they allowed him to use on so he was put in solitary confinement. Mind you the injustice that was done to him is that all of this was done while the stat "prepared" for the trial.
