Installing Service Packs and Hotfixes

10
Install Service Pack 6 (SP6) and related Hotfixes
See NT Patches. This page contains detailed information on Service Packs 6 and related Hotfixes. The Post-SP6a Security Rollup should then be applied, followed by any remaining hotfixes.

Installing Drivers, Applications, and Services

11
Install video drivers
12
Install necessary applications (ie browsers, etc.)
Internet Explorer 4.01 or greater may need to be installed prior to installing some applications. In some instances (IIS 4.0 from the Option Pack) there are some ways around needing to install IE. This is discussed in more detail on the Securing IIS page. Reboot as needed.
13
Install necessary NT Services
This may include: Microsoft DNS Server, WINS Server, DHCP Server, RAS, PPTP, Services for Macintosh, etc. Reboot as needed.
14
Re-apply Service Pack and Hotfixes

Test the Server

15
Verify that the server can communicate over the network
Ping other network IP addresses (if running TCP/IP). View other network hosts in Network Neighborhood.
16
Verify that all applications and services are working.

Update Repair Information

17
Backup the system configuration files.
From the NT command line, type rdisk /s and press enter.
